House Policies
Cork Opera House operates the following policies for the benefit and enjoyment of all its patrons
- Smoking is prohibited in the Theatre.
- We ask that all mobile phones and electronic paging devices be turned off during performances.
- Flash Photography and Video recording is prohibited.
- Late comers may not be admitted or may be seated in an area of the Auditorium as directed by management.
- Food or drink in the auditorium is permitted at the discretion of the promoter and manager however we ask our patrons to please refrain from consuming food or drink during the performance. Food and drink not purchased from the premises is prohibited.
We ask that all patrons respect those around them. Please keep movement and speech to a minimum. We request that parents ensure their children are not a disturbance to other patrons. Cork Opera House is dedicated to the highest of entertainment values and we thank you for your co-operation in these matters.
Alcohol & Smoking Legislation
Bars
Under Section 14 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2003, it is unlawful to allow a person under the age of 18 years to be in the bar area of a licensed premises after 9pm. The management of Cork Opera House would therefore respectfully request that people under the age of 18 years not enter the bar areas of the theatre where alcohol is being served after 9pm.
Smoking
Further to the Tobacco Smoking (Prohibition) Regulations 2003, which came into operation from March 29, 2004, it is illegal to smoke tobacco products in a place or premises (other than a dwelling), with particular application to most enclosed places of work. Smoking is therefore prohibited in the Cork Opera House and the Half Moon Theatre.
Age Appropriateness
We strongly advise bookers to enquire as to the suitability of family and children’s shows for particular ages e.g . “Suitable for age 4 upwards” and to take account of this recommendation when booking for children.
Babes-In-Arms (children under 2 years)
Occasionally, Cork Opera House will present a show which is suitable for children from 0 - 4 years of age (for example, the Christmas Pantomime). In these circumstances, children under 2 years of age are admitted free of charge provided they can be seated throughout the performance on the accompanying adult’s lap. If bookers wish to avail of this facility, they must advise the Box Office at the time of booking (telephone and in person bookings only) and an infant ticket will be issued.
Cork Opera House reserves the right to limit the number of infant tickets issued for any one performance for Health and Safety reasons to do with overall capacity.
Children over 2 years of age must have a paid ticket.
In circumstances where a show is suitable for ages 4 and upwards (including shows where no age range is advised and which are primarily for adults) we regret that babes-in-arms cannot be admitted.
Cork Opera House presents many shows (musicals etc) which may be suitable for 2 – 16 year olds without being advertised as specifically family shows. If you feel that your child or children would enjoy and understand the show, and their attendance would not compromise your enjoyment or that of other patrons, please feel free to bring them. If you are unsure about this, please phone the Box Office for advice.

Occasionally, shows may not be suitable for under-16s. Cork Opera House will make every effort to highlight this on its website and in its season brochure.
