Guidelines for School Groups

The following information is intended to clarify Cork Opera House policies, prevent any last-minute questions about your booking, and help make your visit to the Cork Opera House as enjoyable as possible.

Getting Ready for Your Visit

  • Full Payment is required 2 weeks in advance of the performance you are attending. Many students have been needlessly disappointed in the past when it seemed shows were sold out. Then due to late cancellations tickets become available but too late for anyone on a waiting list to take advantage. Our new box office system is programmed to automatically cancel any reservations not paid two weeks in advance.

  • Refund policy: We appreciate that parents often request refunds when their child is unable to attend the Cork Opera House for a variety of reasons. Though the box office has a firm 'no refunds' policy, we make an exception with school groups and will issue one refund for every 25 tickets purchased. Requests may be made on the day of the performance by the teacher in charge.

The Day of Your Visit

  • Please make sure that your group arrives at least twenty minutes before the performance is scheduled to begin. Late arrivals delay the curtain, disrupting travel schedules for other groups.

  • Ensure adequate supervision for your students. The Cork Opera House provides one complimentary ticket for every twenty students. We ask that you remain in the auditorium during the performance, and sit amongst your students.

  • Mobile phones must be powered off, not just put on silent. Mobiles cause static on the radio microphones used by cast for amplification, and by crew to communicate during performances.

  • Out of courtesy for both performers and fellow theatre-goers please discuss theatre etiquette with your students before attending the Cork Opera House:
    • Please deposit all rubbish in bins provided.
    • Visit the toilet before the show or during the interval rather than mid-performance.
    • No talking or whispering during the performance.
    • No photography is allowed during performances.
    • Please be aware of the noise made by crisps, sweet wrappers, etc as this may disturb other patrons.
  • Please do not hesitate to alert an usher if you are disturbed by noise from other groups.
