PAUL DUNLEA SEPTET
Although at home in a variety of musical styles, Cork trombonist/composer/arranger Paul Dunlea concentrates primarily on Jazz and Improvisation. This has furthered his reputation as one of Irelands most in demand trombonists. Dunlea has performed/toured/recorded with the likes of Mick Flannery, Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Bryce Dressner (The National), Lewis Nash, Peter Washington,Billy Drummond, Greg Gisbert,Tim Ries, David O’ Rourke’s O’ Rourkestra, Marshall Gilkes, Ryan Keberle,Taylor Eigsti, Bob Millikan, The Crash Ensemble, The Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, Syd Lawrence Orchestra, Hot House Big Band,Cormac McCarthy’s Cottage Evolution, Brian Deady, Niall McCabe Band & The Hard Ground. Dunlea is a graduate of the CIT Cork School of music holding both a bathelors degree in trombone performance and a masters degree in composition. He has held the chair of principle trombone with the Band 1 Brigade – Irish Defence Forces since 2001.
In 2011, Dunlea released his debut album ‘Bi-polAr’ to critical acclaim – reaching #1 in the iTunes chart. 2016 saw the release of his second album ‘Fraternal’ recorded at the renowned Bunker Studios, Brooklyn, NY featuring bassist Peter Washington, drummer Billy Drummond, guitarist David O’ Rourke (co-leader) & Cork’s Cormac McCarthy.
In 2013 Dunlea established his own big band as a creative outlet for his own compositions. To date, the band has performed sell out shows across the country in venues such as The Opera House, Cork, The Grand Opera House, Belfast & The Everyman Theatre – Cork along with headlining the 2015Cork & Limerick Jazz Festivals. Entire concerts have also been broadcast nationally on both RTE and BBC radio
As well as writing for his own various groups and ensembles, Dunlea’s compositions and arrangements have been performed by The Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, Hothouse Big band, Crisis Point Big Band, Larry McKenna, Tony Miceli, Stan Sulzmann, Julien Seigel, Cathal Coughlan, Camille O’ Sullivan, Dana Masters, Gareth Dunlop, Niall McCabe, Laoise Leahy, Anna Mitchell, Jack O’Rourke,Brian Deady, The Frank & Walters, Band of An Garda Siochana, Defence Forces Bands-Ireland, Cork School of Music Symphony Orchestra & CSM Wind Ensemble. He has also written/arranged for countless theatre productions, groups and recording artists including Mick Flannery’s two number 1 albums – “Red To Blue” (2012 EMI records) & By The Rule (2014 EMI Records)
Recently Dunlea performed alongside some of the biggest names in the New York Jazz scene commemorating the music of Frank Sinatra. The band, led by Irish born guitarist David O’ Rourke, played 8 sell out shows at the famous Jazz Standard Club.
PAUL BOOTH QUARTET
Having released five solo albums to date, Paul Booth has firmly established himself as an in demand solo artist, as well as a ‘first call’ sideman for many big names in both jazz and popular music worlds.
In his early years, whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Music, he won many awards including the prestigious Clifford Brown/Stan Getz fellowship held in Miami, “The Best Modern Jazz Player” category in the televised “Young Jazz Player of the Year” competition and many more.
His ability to blend into any musical surrounding coupled with his talents as a multi-instrumentalist has seen him work with a variety of well-known artists. Paul is currently in the Steve Winwood band, can be seen touring with Incognito, Brand New Heavies, BBC Big Band, Michael Janisch Quintet, Ryan Quigley Quintet and over the years has toured, performed & recorded worldwide with the likes of Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Van Morrison, The Allman Brothers, Bonnie Raitt, Chaka Khan, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Rod Stewart, Kylie Mingoue, Riverdance, Warren Haynes, Basia, Marti Pellow, Derek Trucks, Matt Bianco, , Eddie Henderson, Geoffrey Keezer, Clarence Penn, Ingrid Jensen
Paul runs several groups including a newly formed quartet with Steve Hamilton, Dave Whitford & Andrew Bain. He also runs a critically acclaimed world music group called Patchwork Project featuring Jacqui Dankworth, Giorgio Serci, Rod Youngs, Davide Mantovani & Satin Singh. The first album came out in 2015 and Volume 2 is due for release in 2018. Paul can also be seen with his organ trio with Ross Stanley & Andrew Bain and as the musical director of the London based world music big band: Bansangu Orchestra.
