The Good Room presents

The Stunning

This is the first time The Stunning will play Cork Opera House. The band has enjoyed a strong and loyal following in Cork since they played their first show in the city in 1987, the year they formed. A few years later they opened for Rory Gallagher at the Lark by the Lee and since then, they’ve gone on to have many memorable shows in the city and throughout the rebel county.
Time must be speeding up. It does NOT feel like 30 years since The Stunning formed in Galway in 1987, though they did disband for nearly ten years in 1994 when Steve & Joe formed The Walls. The last original song The Stunning released as a single was in 1993 – “Tightrope Walker”. Now, twenty-four years later, they released their first single of the 21 st Century “Brighten Up My Life” last May, which has already clocked up over 1,000 plays on Irish radio. Another new single “Always You” was released on Nov 10th and is accompanied by a beautiful new video by the talented Myles O’Reilly.
The band is also putting the finishing touches to a re-recorded, re-imagined version of their multi-platinum second album “Once Around the World”. It hit the number one spot in 1992 and included the hit singles ‘Everything that Rises’; ‘Heads are Gonna Roll’; ‘Mr. Ginger’ and ‘She’s on my Mind’. The band always felt that the original album hadn’t done the songs justice and in the years that have passed the songs have grown stronger and more assured. It’s been renamed ‘Twice Around the World’ and will also include the new singles ‘Brighten up my Life’ and ‘Always You’.
‘Twice Around the World’ is due for release on March 16th 2018.
Some interesting facts about The Stunning:
* Lead singer Steve Wall is also an actor. He has appeared in shows such as Vikings, Silent Witness (BBC), Rebellion (RTE/Sundance); Crossing Lines (Netflix) and Moone Boy. He recently completed his first lead role in a feature, playing the legendary jazz musician Chet Baker in a movie about his last days in Amsterdam. It’s due for release in 2018.
* The Stunning have sold over 100,000 albums in Ireland alone, with two number ones. Their debut spent 5 weeks at number one.
* Bass player Joe Wall teaches in BIMM Music College, Dublin where they treat him like a rock star.
* Trumpet & keyboard player Jim Higgins is also an in-demand bodhrán player and percussionist, currently touring with folk-legend Christy Moore. Jim is the only member of the band actually from Galway.
* Guitarist Derek Murray gets up at 5am to meditate and works as a sound engineer with Tommy
Tiernan, one of Irelands finest comedians. Tommy says Derek has a calming effect on him.
* Cormac Dunne qualified as an archaeologist, but swapped the trowel for sticks and is now one of the most in-demand session drummers in the west of Ireland.
