Right Here Right Now 2018

Wallis Bird plus special guest John Blek

Presented by Cork Opera House and Coughlan’s Live Promotions, Right Here Right Now is the festival of Cork and of Irish music. For the full line up of Right Here Right Now 2018 click here.

Cork is a hotbed of creativity and a breeding ground for a huge range of fantastic artists across a multitude of genres. Cork Opera House is proud to provide a stage for local, national and international acts to collaborate together. This festival is a celebration of the music scene in Cork Right Here, Right Now.

Wallis Bird

Irish artist Wallis Bird has been enrapturing audiences for over a decade. Nominated for a Choice Music Prize at home in 2017, she’s also been making big waves in mainland Europe. The same year saw her win the 2017 Deutsche Musikautorenpreis – a national award chosen by composers and awarded to their peers – a huge achievement for a non-German. Now based in Berlin, Wallis released her fifth studio album ‘Home’ in September 2016 and has been touring relentlessly all over the world since its release.

Her irrepressible energy on stage is one of her trademarks; even the Irish Times once noted it could ‘kickstart an entire economy’. In 2016, she played a 12-hour free gig in aid of refugee charities in Berlin, even finding enough strength to play an encore. Never your average troubadour, Wallis already has two Meteor Awards (National Irish Music Prize) to her name, as well as a previous Choice nomination, and has toured with the likes of Rodrigo y Gabriela, Billy Bragg, The Gossip & Emilliana Torrini. Though you might not catch another 12-hour show anytime soon, you can be sure that few can enchant an audience the way she can.

John Blek

Best known for his work with his band John Blek & the Rats, John has begun a new journey influenced by the folk music of Ireland, Britain and the US, John Blek delves into the world of fingerstyle guitar and reveals the deeply personal and poignant lyrical aspects of his character.

Ever prolific, Blek has released 5 albums in the last 5 years . ‘Salt in the Water’ from Blek’s current album Catharsis Vol.1, was nominated for Song of the Year at the International Folk Music Awards 2018 at Folk Alliance International in Kansas City.

“a master of subtlety in realms of folk-informed pop.” The Thin Air

‘His talent is shining brighter with every album.’ John Creedon, RTÉ
