The RTÉ Concert Orchestra explore the Reich effect at work in composers Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Kjartan Sveinsson of Sigur Rós and Nico Muhly, as well as performing Eight Lines by Steve Reich himself. Doghouse, by Radiohead lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, was commissioned by the BBC Concert Orchestra and features music used in his Norwegian Wood film score. Sveinsson’s Credo has been called luminous, intense, verging on the mystical, with the New York Times describing “music that aspired to ecstatic peaks”. Steve Reich’s Eight Lines, from 1983, is a rescoring of his Octet of a few years earlier, which was influenced by the composer’s studies of Hebrew Scriptures. The programme opens with Step Team and So to Speak by young American composer Nico Muhly, one of the most talked-about musicians of his generation.
