This festival brings together some of the finest acts and musicians in the bustling music community around Cork, from brash bands, to balladeers, from sweet soul, to rock and roll, with a full concert orchestra thrown in for good measure! One of the highlights of the weekend sees Jack O Rourke and band perform his critically acclaimed debut album Dreamcatcher with the Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra, directed by John O Brien and featuring special guests Strung and Anna Mitchell.
The Festival takes over Cork Opera House for the whole weekend with shows in the Main Auditorium, in The Right Room (a unique space behind the red curtains of the main stage), and The Green Room via Half Moon Street, which hosts a Friday and Saturday night ‘Ramble’ session where musicians from throughout the weekend will be on hand to give impromptu performances in an intimate setting.
Right Here, Right Now features veterans of the Cork music scene like Hank Wedel and Interference, some of the finest songwriters of their generation including Mick Flannery, and showcases some of Cork’s burgeoning up and coming artists like Shookrah and Marlene Enright. A bumper Bank Holiday Sunday sees the line up being completed by Marc O Reilly and band, John Blek and The Rats, Súp Trio, The Shaker Hymn, Ian Whitty and the Exchange, Greenshine and Clare Sands.
Cork Opera House CEO Eibhlín Gleeson clearly relishes the chance to work with such a range of artists over one weekend in April:
“For a while now we’ve been looking in to ways to really be able to celebrate the diverse, thriving music scene in Cork. The city is packed full of amazing talent, bursting with creativity, and we wanted to provide a space and a moment for the city to really take in what an incredible community of homegrown artists we have on our doorstep. We’re delighted to be working with Coughlans Live Promotions, who are doing an incredible job in helping to develop and support artists from the ground up.”
Fresh from the success of promoting a sell-out Interference show in February, Brian Hassett from Coughlans Live Promotions is looking forward to once again working with Cork Opera House:
“We are delighted to be teaming up with Cork Opera House and together shining a spotlight on some of the really great music that is currently being created and released by Cork based artists and bands. ‘Right Here Right Now’ celebrates a very creative period in the city, showcasing several groups throughout the weekend who are garnering a great reputation with audiences on both national and international stages.”
