Declan O’Rourke

In October 2004, amongst a thriving Dublin music scene Declan O’Rourke’s debut album Since Kyabram was released. In its first week, Since Kyabram entered the charts at no.5 and over the following two years achieved gold, platinum and twice platinum status.  The album held within it a collection of songs which have grown in popularity over the years. Galileo, Sarah, No Place To Hide, We Didn’t Mean To Go To Sea and Marrying The Sea are amongst the titles which led to Award nominations and plaudits from Paul Weller, Eddi Reader, Paul Brady and Snow Patrol.

Speaking about the upcoming shows Declan O’Rourke says

To celebrate and release Kyabram all over again, this time with a deeper dive inside the tapes, is going to be such a trip. Being fully immersed in the music once more for just a handful of special 20th-anniversary concerts will also be very exciting! Since Kyabram is a record I’m very proud of, both as an introductory body of work and a collection of songs individually. After 20 years I’m still hugely nostalgic for it and love that it has become a favourite for many others.”

The Fureys

Legends of Irish music & song, The FUREYS renowned for their hit songs ‘I will love you’, ‘When you were sweet 16’, ‘The Green fields of France’, ‘The old man’, ‘Red rose café’, ‘From Clare to here’, ‘Her father didn’t like me anyway’, ‘Leaving Nancy’, ‘Steal away’ etc. take to our stage for the final time as part of their FAREWELL TOUR. The oldest of the brothers, Eddie Furey left home in 1966 and travelled to Scotland at the time of the great folk revival where he met and shared accommodation with then unknown folk singers Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty. In 1972, Gerry Rafferty wrote ‘Her father didn’t like me anyway’ for Eddie. BBC Radio 1 presenter, the late John Peel made it his single of the year.

They are particularly proud of their UK chart success with songs such as “I Will Love You” and “When You Were Sweet Sixteen”, which in turn helped bring Irish folk and traditional music to a completely new audience. The band made their Top of the Pops debut in 1981. Eddie Furey recalls how “many musicians have told us we influenced them after hearing a record from their parents or grandparents”. Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics has
credited Eddie with teaching him his first chords on the guitar while still a teenager. Eddie would return the compliment by joining Dave on stage in Paris for a jam during Dave’s wedding to Bananarama’s Siobhan Fahey.

Their emotive songs stir many emotions, tears and laughter, sadness and joy.

Dean Power Recital – Great Irish Poets Songbook

The Easter Rising. The unmatched Irish landscape. A history marred with occupation and struggle. Love and loss in all its shapes and forms. These themes come to life through the articulations of James Joyce, Fanny Parnell, W.B. Yeats and Thomas Moore – some of the most iconic figures in this literary history. And these four poets form the basis for the first set of song cycles in the Great Irish Poets Songbook.

Clare tenor Dean Power brings you an evening of songs inspired by the Irish literary and musical tradition. Settings of text written by Yeats, Joyce, Wilde and Fanny Parnell, as well as settings of Moore’s Melodies, are newly composed and arranged by James Hurley, who accompanies Dean on piano for the evening.

The Great Irish Poets Songbook project now consists of more than 25 newly composed pieces in several song cycles based on the works of the aforementioned writers. The resulting music spans many genres and themes, and allows one to deeply immerse in the world of these powerful literary works.

Irish tenor Dean Power is a current Cara O’Sullivan Associate Artist at Cork Opera House and a former member of the ensemble at the Bayerische Staatsoper. After nine years as an ensemble member, 2020-21 was his final season as he now expands upon his already growing career as an international solo guest artist.

An ambitious events space in Ballycotton, East Cork, Sea Church is a multidisciplinary venue housed in a fully refurbished Church of Ireland church. Sea Church maintains its distinctive design attributes. This project has required attention to detail and the reuse of existing fixtures & features, including the pointed arch stained-glass windows, the slate roof, wrought-iron gates and oak panels.

As St Colman’s was a protected building, conservation of the building was a key element. It has been an arduous process, respecting the historic site while trying to build a restaurant and music venue. The Sea Church project brings St. Colman’s church alive once again and eager with excitement and hope for what is to come for this special venue.
