Morcheeba – Guinness Cork Jazz Festival

Trip hop legends, Morcheeba, have sold over 10 million albums and toured the world with their signature chilled, electronic/organic sound.

Arriving on a creative mid-90s UK scene that featured peers such as Portishead and Tricky, Morcheeba’s debut album, Who Can You Trust? was released in April 1996 and captured imaginations through a combination of Paul Godfrey’s hip hop roots, Ross Godfrey’s psychedelic rock influences and Skye Edwards’ soul -styled vocals.

Expect groove-oriented tunes with a laid-back mix of fusion, funk, and blues, Morcheeba make a welcome debut at Cork Opera House on Friday October 27.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – Guinness Cork Jazz Festival

The seven sons of jazz great Phil Cohran carry on his musical legacy. Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are seven brothers from the south side of Chicago. Together they have toured throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and South America playing with everyone from Prince, Mos Def , Mick Jones (The Clash) and Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz). They’ve performed at Coachella, WOMAD AU, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall.

The documentary film Brothers Hypnotic, explores their music, work ethic, life and experience of being raised by their jazz legend father Phil Cohran. Although the group’s early musical training encompassed primarily elements of instrumental performance, the brothers brought the music of their own generation (hip-hop, rock, reggae to name a few) and fused these components with the cosmic jazz style of their father.

Macy Gray – Guinness Cork Jazz Festival

Grammy winner Macy Gray brings her new band, The California Jet Club, to Cork for what promises to be one of the highlights of this year’s Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.

The possessor of one of the most unique and universally recognised voices in modern R&B, Macy achieved global stardom with the timeless hit, ‘I Try’, and following several award-winning solo albums, delivered her first fronting a band with 2023’s The Reset.

A noted actor too, Macy has drawn comparisons to some of the world’s most revered musical talent, including Billie Holliday, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner; yet is renowned for her own approach to sound, lyrics and fashion.

Produced by Tommy Parker, The Reset reveals 360 degrees of Macy Gray at her lyrically introspective and vocally exuberant best. The songs move from Macy’s signature vulnerable intimacy on the lead single, ‘Thinking of You’, the epic orchestral ballad ‘You Got Away’ and the festive, sexy circus of ‘Bottom to the Top’, to the resoundingly rebounding singalong uplift of ‘Every Night’ featuring special guest, rapper Maino.

This performance is strictly over 18’s.
