Green Room Jazz – Next Experiment

Evolving from the acclaimed CEO Experiment – the project co-led nearly ten years ago by Leopoldo Osio and Peter Erdei that injected a fresh energy into the Irish music scene and collaborated with influential American guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel at the peak of their work– pianist and composer Leopoldo Osio now returns with an exciting new international ensemble.

Joining him are Argentinian saxophonist Gianni Gagliardi, Spanish drummer Gonzalo del Val, his long-time Hungarian collaborator Peter Erdei on bass, and the outstanding Cork-based trombonist Paul Dunlea, brought together especially for this occasion.

Following the success of their album launch at the Bray Jazz Festival in 2024 and a subsequent Irish tour this past February, this performance offers a rare chance to experience the group live.

Green Room Jazz – Estratos

Drummer and composer Diego Joaquin Ramirez brings his sonically adventurous trio Estratos to the Cork Jazz Festival 2025, sharing the stage with his brother, acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and producer Sanche Ramirez (Cork IE/Philadelphia USA), and virtuoso keyboardist and arranger Matt Wong (San Francisco USA). Estratos draws inspiration from the sounds & sights of Diego’s childhood in Cork, Ireland, as well as from his family’s deep ties to Native American and Latin American culture.

Influences from traditional Native American percussion, the 2000s math rock scene in Ireland, and the jazz and ambient electronica scene of Diego’s current home in NYC are woven through the fabric of this latest project, resulting in a body of work that’s both deeply personal and brightly inventive. Diego has become a go-to collaborator both in and outside the Jazz world, performing with artists like Carrtoons, Kiefer, Melanie Charles, Wayne Tucker, Marc Cary, and Circuit Kisser, at venues and platforms such as NPR Tiny Desk, The Blue Note, and Newport Jazz Festival.

Green Room Jazz – Fixity

FIXITY is a project formed by multi-instrumentalist and composer Dan Walsh in 2015. The project is based around the impossibility of repeated moments and manifests in solo and ensemble settings with collaborators from throughout Ireland and beyond.

Fixity released a Double LP on Penske Recordings in December 2016 entitled “The Things In The Room” featuring Saxophonist Emil Nerstrand, Guitarist Nils Andersson and Fredrik Persson. The double LP was recorded in a single evening at the historic Tambourine Studios in Malmo, Sweden.

Fixity’s second LP “No Man Can Tell” was released in 2019, also on Penske Recordings. Produced with the Altered Hours’ Patrick Cullen, the album features an extended ensemble of Irish and International musicians collectively interpreting Walsh’s compositions by characteristically ambitious and future-focused means.

To date FIXITY has presented 11 individual releases, also featuring a series of solo-produced and numbered mini-albums.

Since the release of FIXITY8 in 2024 Dan has been performing with a growing pool of collaborators including The Bonk, Junior Brother, Naive Ted and Elaine Howley, as well as embarking on a solo european tour in February 2023 spanning 5 countries.

The next phase of explorations begins this year with new large-ensemble music on the way.

Green Room Jazz – Laoise Leahy

It seems fitting that Cork vocalist and composer Laoise Leahy will officially launch her ‘Breathe In & Let Go’ EP with a special performance in the Green Room, Cork Opera House, as part of the Cork Jazz Festival 2025 as it was throughout her artist residency here in 2023 that these songs and sound took shape and flight.

A native of Cork and a contemporary voice lecturer at MTU Cork School of Music, Laoise has established herself as one of Ireland’s most compelling and versatile vocalists. Known for her rich, soulful tone and fearless improvisation, she has performed and recorded with leading artists on the jazz, soul, folk, and contemporary music scenes, while nurturing the next generation of performers through her work as an educator.

Her debut EP, “Breathe In & Let Go”, produced by Christian Best, represents a new chapter in her artistic journey. The music draws inspiration from the ocean, nature, space, time and the rhythm of breath, weaving together jazz harmony, soul grooves, folk storytelling, and subtle electronic textures. The result is a sound that is deeply atmospheric and emotionally resonant.

Speaking about the project, Laoise says:

“This EP grew out of a desire to capture both the stillness and the intensity of being alive – the calm and the chaos. For me, music is about connection, release and freedom, and , in response to the demanding and busy modern world, I wanted this project to embody that.”

For this special 70-minute performance, Laoise will be joined by the acclaimed Johnny Taylor Trio, bringing their incredible studio performances to life alongside reimagined jazz works and spontaneous improvisation.

Audiences can expect a performance that is intimate, expansive, and profoundly moving – a celebration not only of an exciting new body of work and the joy and magic of live jazz, song and improvisation but also of Laoise’s deep roots in the Cork music community.
